Biography

Mr. Bong-hyun Kim passed High Diplomatic Service Examination in 1982 to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of Korea. In 2000, he served as the Director, United Nations Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT). His career includes Advisor to the Minister of MOFAT (2004-2005), Director-General, Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Bureau (2006-2008). In 2008, he became the Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 2008 to 2011, and thereafter was appointed as Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs, MOFAT from 2011 to 2013. He served as a Sherpa for the Nuclear Security Summit held in Seoul in 2012 in his capacity as Deputy Minister. He was appointed in 2013 and served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Australia until May 2016. He obtained his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Dongguk University, the Republic of Korea, in 2009.
