Challenges and Opportunities in Global Response to COVID-19 Pandemic; Ensuring Equitable Access to Vaccines for All

In order to overcome the economic and societal crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, not only individual countries but also intranational community is making various efforts. Discussions are underway on the development and equitable allocation of vaccines. The Republic of Korea is, according to its 「Vaccine Strategy」endorsed by the cabinet meeting on September 15th, taking a multi-track approach, both through supporting domestic research and development and participating in the international collaboration mechanism for vaccines.
In this context, Republic of Korea is participating in the COVAX Facility co-hosted by WHO, CEPI(Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations), and Gavi(The Vaccine Alliance) which aims to ensure “fair and equitable access” to COVID-19 vaccines for all countries. Let us discuss the challenges and opportunities of cooperation for vaccines in the international community in terms of the COVAX Facility.
