South-North relations are opening a new era of peace and prosperity after it successfully held the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. As well, the denuclearization issue has a new momentum through three inter-Korean summits and two North Korean summits. Jeju, to make itself a symbol of the ‘island of world peace’, has played a leading role in engaging North Korea through humanitarian and socio-cultural exchanges. Among those are ‘mandarin orange’ aid and Jeju citizens’ visits to NK since the early 2000s.
This session brings together experts and scholars to discuss new directions and to search for pathways to promote Jeju’s role in inter-Korean cooperation.
