It is written in the Constitution of UNESCO that “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed,” In this regard, just as art and culture can effectively influence the minds of men, they can also play an essential role in fostering peace and reconciliation in any society. How have art and culture contributed to peace and reconciliation following wars in Europe and on the Korean Peninsula? We can find answers from the experiences of France and the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. In this session, panelists will explore the role of art and culture as a catalyst for peace and reconciliation.
