
Biography
Jong Hwan Do, born on September 27, 1954, in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, is a poet and a member of the National Assembly and has served as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. As a lawmaker, he has been actively engaged in the fields of education and culture, taking the lead in addressing issues such as the state-authored Korean history textbook controversy and the blacklist of cultural and artistic figures. During his tenure as Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, he played a key role in turning the PyeongChang Winter Olympics into a "Peace Olympics" and in opening a new era of peace and harmony by initiating inter-Korean cultural and sports exchanges. His published works include poetry collections such as You, the Hollyhock Flower, and A Flower that Blooms While Trembling, as well as essay collections like Even When Flowers Are Wet, Their Fragrance Does Not Fade. He has received several literary awards, including the Yoon Dong-ju Literature Grand Prize and the Baek Seok Literary Award.
