Through the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held in October 2017, President Xi advocated a ‘New Type of International Relations’ and the ‘Community of Common Destiny with Mankind,’ as new keywords of Chinese foreign policy. The Chinese government has pursued an assertive foreign policy and recently showed its strong will to protect its national interests while its strategic competition with the U.S. is intensifying. On the other hand, China, as a responsible major power, emphasizes mutual respect, reciprocity, as well as peace and stability in the international community. Against this backdrop, this session aims to analyze the implication of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative for the ‘Community of Common Destiny with Mankind’ and a New Type of International Relations. Furthermore, the panels will share their perspectives on how China can offer values and standards with its own characteristics to the world.
