10 years have passed since the first independent Trilateral Summit was held among China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea in 2008. Despite the ups and downs in bilateral relations and uncertainties in Northeast Asia, the three countries have developed a comprehensive trilateral cooperation framework, encompassing political and security, economic and financial, and socio-cultural cooperation. Being more than a sum of these bilateral relations, trilateral cooperation definitely offers its own strategic value in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Also, the upcoming Trilateral Summit in Japan is expected to breathe in new momentum for further institutionalization of trilateral cooperation.
In this context, the session aims to provide a roadmap for trilateral cooperation beyond Trilateral Cooperation Vision 2020. The speakers will be invited to share their views on the current geopolitical environment in Northeast Asia and their expectations for trilateral cooperation.
