Recently, there have been rapidly unfolding movements toward addressing Korean Peninsula issues, such as North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang Olympics, its announcement of possible denuclearization, the 3rd inter-Korean summit, and the US-North Korea summit. What is distinct from the past this time is that a series of recent developments saim for a fundamental resolution of Korean Peninsula issues, including the pursuit of denuclearization and the establishment of a peace regime. And in the process, the unification process will accelerate accordingly. Such change is important because it marks the arrival of the new peace paradigm on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. What is important is that the new peace paradigm on the Korean peninsula should not only be sought by the government and the state alone. Such pursuit should be accompanied by corresponding changes and efforts from civil society as a whole. This session aims to explore the role of civil society in building a new peace paradigm on the Korean peninsula.
