In an effort to make Jeju a “Carbon-free island,” Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is pursuing a policy to alter every car on Jeju Island into electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. In 2012, the Province provided one hundred EVs for official use and has been concentrating on expanding EVs to make Jeju a home for 2,366 electric cars now, which is 40% of the whole EVs of the country. The Province is planning to provide subsidies for four thousand EVs this year. In this session, J.B. Straubel, Co-founder and CTO of Tesla Motors, will share his views on the electric car industry and its prospects together with advice on Jeju’s Carbon Free Island’ initiative.
