Session
What Can Global Media Do in an Age of Division? - Challenges Surrounding Truth, Trust, and Global Narratives
Date- June 26 (Fri.)
Time- 10:20 ~ 11:40
Organization- Jeju Peace Institute
Room- Crystal Hall E
Subject- Diplomacy / Security
The international community is entering an era increasingly defined by geopolitical tensions, economic competition, and ideological polarization—an era of deepening division. In this context, information has evolved beyond a mere tool of communication to become a critical force shaping public opinion, influencing policymaking, and even restructuring the global order.
The rapid expansion of digital platforms and social media has fundamentally transformed the production and dissemination of information. The boundaries between fact and opinion, truth and misinformation, have become increasingly blurred. As a result, public trust in media has declined worldwide, while competing “global narratives” driven by differing national and political interests continue to intensify.
This session brings together senior Korean journalists and Seoul-based foreign correspondents from international media to explore the evolving role and responsibilities of the media in an increasingly fragmented world.
