WANG Sontaek

Biography

Dr. WANG Sontaek is a South Korean Policy analyst, Journalist, and Academic Specializing in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs. He began his career in 1994 as a TV Journalist with YTN, one of South Korea’s leading 24-hour news networks. Since 2002, he has specialized in diplomacy and Korean Peninsula affairs.
Since 2024, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Public Diplomacy at Sogang University. In 2025, he taught Global Communication at Seoul National University. He writes columns regularly on diplomacy and international affairs for The Korea Herald. Additionally, he served as an advisor to the Presidential Committee on Policy Planning in 2025 and currently acts as a policy advisor for the Office of National Security of the Blue House, as well as a standing Committee Member of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council as of 2026. Born in Cheongju, South Korea, in June 1965, Dr. WANG studied English Literature at Sogang University. He later earned a Master’s degree in International Policy and Practice from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in North Korean Studies from the University of North Korean Studies.
