Diplomacy / Security
This session examines how shifting geopolitical dynamics in Europe are reshaping the economic relationship between Korea and the Visegrad Group (V4)—Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Russia’s war in Ukraine, intensifying great-power competition, and evolving EU industrial and economic security policies have elevated Central Europe’s strategic importance while redefining its role in global supply chains. Ambassadors from the V4 countries to Korea will share perspectives on how their governments balance security concerns with economic priorities, including investment, industrial policy, and supply chain resilience. The discussion will explore how geopolitical risks are influencing cooperation with Korean firms in key sectors such as automotive, batteries, energy, and advanced manufacturing. It will also assess the implications of these shifts for Korea’s economic diplomacy toward Central Europe and consider how Korea and the V4 countries can build a more resilient and mutually beneficial partnership that integrates geopolitical realities with long-term economic interests.
