The climate crisis is a global challenge that threatens the very survival of humanity. Overcoming it requires new legal and institutional imagination that goes beyond existing policy and technological approaches. Jeju Island is already exploring a sustainable path where all living beings coexist by recognizing nature and ecosystems as legal entities through the innovative concept of the ‘Eco Legal Person,’ thereby moving beyond human-centered thinking and institutions. However, considering that the peace of the natural ecosystem stems from the health of the human ecosystem, the ‘Eco Legal Person’ calls for a fundamental shift in human thinking and organic cooperation that goes beyond changes in laws and institutions. This Jeju Forum is expected to serve as an opportunity to introduce the practical implementation of the ‘Eco Legal Person’—which stems from the ideal of “ecological peace”—to the international community and to build a comprehensive global network encompassing academia, government, business, and civil society across nations. If Jeju Island moves beyond its image as a scenic tourist destination to become a stage for discourse and action where ecological peace and political peace converge, it will be reevaluated as a cradle of peace that proactively leads the world toward “Ecological Peace.”
