This session will explore the possibility of transforming the bilateral peace process between North Korea and the U.S. into a multilateral one involving all of Northeast Asia in the wake of their leaders’ summits in 2018 and 2019. Now that Sweden has already invited the six countries that took part in the Six-Party Talks to dialogue on peace, noting the possibility of reopening the now-defunct talks, it is highly likely that an international effort might be made soon to resume discussions on multilateral cooperation in Northeast Asia. At this point, the South Korean government needs to take the initiative for such cooperation by restoring the “Jeju Peace Process” that encompasses the Six-Party Talks, the EU, and ASEAN.
