New East Asia Regional Order and the Role of the UN

The East Asian order is undergoing phenomenal changes. These have significant implications at the regional and international levels and pose unprecedented challenges to East Asia. A key mission of the United Nations (UN) is to maintain peace and security. The UN also tries to uphold human dignity by promoting sustainable development and safeguarding democracy and human rights. The participants in this session will examine East Asia's characteristics and the challenges it faces and hold an in-depth discussion on the role the UN has to assume in strengthening peace and security in the region and contributing to enhancing the quality of life.
