Amid longstanding historical feuds between Korea and Japan, the international community is facing the era of violence and conflicts heralded by various global issues such as the Ukraine War and pandemics. At the same time, the growing nuclear capability of North Korea and the US-China rivalry are intensifying regional instability in Northeast Asia.
Against this backdrop, the reestablishment of Korea-Japan relations requires international efforts to mitigate confrontations and move toward peace and cooperation, as well as bilateral historical reconciliation.
This session aims to explore Korea and Japan's respective perceptions of the current international relations. The panelists will discuss the common norms, values, and challenges in the years ahead to foster coexistence and cooperation in the international community.
