Toward Regional Cooperation for the Establishment of a Peace Regime on the Korean Peninsula

Time

Room

A peace regime on the Korean Peninsula can be firmly established through cooperation with neighboring countries, in addition to inter-Korean relations. This is because not only the U.S. and China, one of the parties to the armistice agreement, but also Japan and Russia have a keen interest on the issue, which they can make a critical impact.
Regional talks to discuss the viable form of a peace regime and start multilateral security cooperation should have been started from the beginning of the denuclearization dialogue. The Moon administration, however, has heavily relied on inter-Korean relations and US-DPRK relations, while making less of an effort to push forward discussions with its neighbors.
This session would provide an opportunity to discuss preparations for regional cooperation on the peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and revisit six-party talks, one of the most important multilateral efforts for the Korean Peninsula in the past.
