This year’s Peace Cities League Session will characterize peace museums in each city as “landmarks for peace” and discuss ways to build a network among the museums and assist in arranging exchanges of programs among museums. A peace museum is designed to reflect on conflicts and disputes, honor the countries, regions, and individuals for their peace-building efforts, and preserve their collections and historical remains in a space of remembrance. In this regard, it is necessary to reexamine the role of the peace museum, which has a great influence on the society and culture of each country, to establish “resilient peace.” In this session, planners of peace museums around the world will be invited to discuss the purpose of each, what programs they have, and what they can share. Lastly, the session will explore how peace museums can be developed into peace landmarks that combine the commonality and characteristics of each region, and how to pursue follow-up projects.
