With the inauguration of the second Trump administration in 2025, the Indo-Pacific region is expected to face rapid strategic shifts and heightened uncertainty. The Trump administration is likely to further intensify its transactional approach to diplomacy, particularly in relations with allies and partners. However, it remains unclear whether U.S. engagement in the Indo-Pacific will be strengthened or pursuedively. In this context, South Korea is also likely to encounter new challenges across diplomatic, security, and economic fronts due to changes in U.S. foreign policy under the Trump administration. These developments represent not only strategic risks and challenges for major Indo-Pacific countries and South Korea, but also present potential opportunities for exploring new avenues of cooperation. This session aims to analyze the strategic changes in the Indo-Pacific landscape triggered by the second Trump administration and assess the resulting challenges and opportunities for regional powers and South Korea. It also seeks to draw policy implications for enhancing cooperation between South Korea and countries in the region.
