Honorable Minister Cho, Governor Oh, President Yudhoyono, Prime Minister Hatoyama, Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,

Firstly I would like to express my sincere gratitude to organizers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Jeju Forum, Jeju governor for bringing us together in a shared purpose: to reinvent cooperation and to renew the promise of peace and prosperity.

I was told diplomats must read their speeches and politicians speak. So today I am not a diplomat nor a politician so I will begin with a question once again.

What is the difference between a diplomat and a politician?

A diplomat thinks twice before saying nothing. And a politician says everything and thinks about it afterward. As for me, I am half diplomat, half politician. So tonight, forgive me if the politician side takes me over.

Today we did the hard work naming the world's fractures, and looking honestly for ways to find solutions. What I will carry home from Jeju is not only the conversations, but the spirit behind them.

I arrived here, straight from participating in a world chess championship and won 5th place. where I was reminded of a simple truth that I think is worth mentioning here at this dinner: you can never win by keeping your strongest pieces apart. You win by collective actions, connecting all pieces on the chess board, big or small. The same, I believe, is true of nations.

I think Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity serves as critical incubators for thе creating multilateralism and mini-laterialism. Based upon the principles of liberal internationalism doctrine I propose to estalish economic connectivity integrating Central Asia's resource-rich economies with Northeast Asia's industrial giants like Korea creates a massive, complementary supply chain and opens new global trade corridors. Mongolia could be connector in between such as middle corridor.

Perhaps one day Northeast Asia will build a home for that ambition, as Southeast Asia did with ASEAN. Great houses often start in small rooms.

On that note, I want to say korean proverb about cooperation. “Balli karremyon hunja kagu, Molli karremyon gachi ka”; “If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together.”

So let me close with a gratitude. To our generous hosts on this beautiful island, and to all of you who came to Jeju to choose cooperation over division thank you.

To Jeju, to good neighbors, and to the patient work of building peace and prosperity.

Cheers
