Biography
After decades of experience in non-proliferation and disarmament, Rafael Mariano GROSSI became IAEA Director General in December 2019 and has since been elected unanimously to a second term.
While Ambassador of Argentina to Austria and Argentine Representative to the IAEA and other International Organizations, Mr. GROSSI was presidentâdesignate of the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the NonâProliferation of Nuclear Weapons. He was president of the Nuclear Suppliers Group and presided over the Diplomatic Conference of the Convention of Nuclear Safety, securing unanimous approval for the Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety. He also served in high-level positions in the Argentine Foreign Service and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Mr. GROSSI is a strong proponent of gender balance in the nuclear field. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations, international History and Politics from University of Geneva, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.
