Biography
Mr. ZHANG Jun, born in August 1960 in China, was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia since April 2024. He graduated from Jilin University, China with LL.B. and Hull University, U.K. with LL.M.
After graduation, ZHANG worked in the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, serving as Deputy Director, Director, Counselor and Deputy Director General. In 2008, ZHANG took the post of Ambassador of China to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Permanent Representative of China to the OPCW till 2012. ZHANG was the first Director General of Department of International Economic Affairs of MFA from 2012, then Assistant Foreign Minister from 2018 to 2019. ZHANG also served as Chinese Sous-Sherpa and then Sherpa for the G20, BRICS Affairs, Secretary General of the Preparatory Committee for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF), and the Convener of the Advisory Council of BRF. From 2019 to 2024, ZHANG was appointed as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of China to U.N.
ZHANG is also a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and its Committee on Foreign Affairs.
