약력
정재정 서울시립대 명예 교수는 한국 근대사와 한일관계사 연구자이다. 한국의 대표적인 일본 전문가로서 활발한 저술 및 언론 활동을 하는 한편 한국과 일본 양국 역사가들의 교류를 통한 신뢰를 바탕으로 네트워크를 구축하는 등 양국의 우호를 위한 역사에 적극적으로 참여하고 있다. 한일관계사학 회장, 제1기와 제2기 한일역사공동연구위원회 위원 등을 역임하면서 한국과 일본의 역사와 문화에 대한 상호이해 증진에 힘쓰고 있다. 또한 제2대 동북아역사재단 이사장 재임기간(2009~2012년)에 미래지향적인 한일관계 구축에 기여하였다. 주요 저서로는 <일제 침략과 한국 철도>(1999), <한일의 역사갈등과 역사대화>(2014) 등이 있다.
Chung Jae-jeong, an honorary professor at the University of Seoul, studies Korean modern history and history of Korea-Japan relations. He, as Korea’s leading Japan expert, is highly active in writing and media activities, while aggressively participating in historical dialogues and exchanges for friendship between the two countries by establishing a network based on mutual interchange among Korean and Japanese historians. Having served the chairman of the Korea-Japan Historical Society and a member of the 1st and 2nd South Korea-Japan Joint History Research Project, Chung is trying to promote the two countries’ mutual understanding of history and culture. He also contributed to the establishment of future-oriented Korea-Japan relations when he served as the 2nd president of the Northeast Asian History Foundation from 2009 to 2012. He is the author of The Japanese Invasion and the Korean Railroads (1999) and Historical Conflicts and Dialogues Between Korea and Japan (2014).
