약력
최병일 박사는 이화여대 국제관계대학원 학장을 역임하고 현재 동대학원 교수로 재직 중이다. 그는 한국국제경제학회(KIEA) 회장이자, 유엔 한국 협회 부회장이다.
그는 한국 경영 분야를 대표하는 씽크탱크인 한국경제연구원 원장을 지냈다. 최 박사는 국민경제자문회의(NEAC), 통상교섭민간자문위원회, 남북교류협력추진협의회, 외교통상부 정책평가전문위원과 같은 한국 정부의 다양한 자문위원회 위원으로 활동했다. 또한, 그는 한국협상학회장, 국제통상학회장을 역임했다.
학계에 진출하기 전, 최병일 박사는 통상 협상 분야에서 한국대표단으로 활동했다. 그는 WTO기본통신협상에서 대표 협상가로 활약했다(1994-1997). 또한, 우루과이라운드 서비스 협상과 한-미 통신협상, 한-EC 통신협상에서도 협상가로 활동했다. 최 박사는 정보 격차를 줄이는 목적으로 진행된 APEC 정상회담에서도 아시아 태평양 정보 인프라에 대한 한국측 입장을 대변하고, 회의를 주도했다.

Dr. Choi is professor and the former Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies at Ewha Womans University. He is the President of the Korean International Economic Association, and the Vice President of the United Nations Association-Republic of Korea.
He was the President of the Korea Economic Research Institute, a think tank representing the Korean business sector. He was a member to various advisory councils for the Korean government, including the National Economic Advisory Council, Trade Negotiations Advisory Council, Inter-Korea Relations Council, and Advisory Council for the Ministry of Foreign Affair and Trade. He served the President of the Korea Association of Negotiation Studies and the President for the Korean Association of Trade and Industry Studies.
Prior to joining academia, he was a trade negotiator representing the Korean government. He was the chief negotiator for the WTO basic telecom negotiations (1994-1997). He negotiated service agreement and the telecom annex at the Uruguay Round, the Korea-US telecom agreement, and the Korea-EU telecom agreement. He led the Korean initiative of the Asia-Pacific Information Infrastructure (APII) at the APEC Summit to reduce the information divide.
His book includes Northeast Asia in 2030: Forging Ahead or Drifting Away (2018), China, New Paradigm (2016), The KORUS FTA: Against the All Odds (2006), and The Success and Failure of Trade Negotiations of Korea (2004). He received B.A. from Seoul National University and Ph.D. economics from Yale.
