Artificial Intelligence is now evolving from ANI (artificial narrow intelligence), which specializes in the specific domain, towards AGI (artificial general intelligence), which thinks and acts like humans. It is still hard to predict whether this AGI will be peacefully coexisted as a companion of human beings or will be exploited in a destructive way, as is the concern of pessimists paying attention to dystopia. Clearly, however, the capacity for developing AI-related technology is emerging as a new decisive factor of strong national competitiveness, and the competition among countries is intensifying, indeed. It is also anticipated that the winning or losing of this competition will affect the global hegemony of the future, not only in the industrial and economic sphere, but including defence, security, and diplomacy. In this session, we discuss how AI should evolve for human peace and preservation of global environment and how to establish cross-border cooperation and AI governance.
