미국 바이든 행정부 출범 이후 한미동맹 발전 방향

Today, the Korean Peninsula is faced with multiple diplomatic and security challenges. With the continuing presence of traditional military threats derived from the North-South divide and North Korea’s nuclear problem, issues including the pandemic, climate change, and economic downturn have emerged as new security threats to our everyday lives.
The inauguration of the Biden administration provides an opportunity for the Republic of Korea and the U.S. to work together against such challenges more closely than ever. As the new U.S. administration attaches great importance to restoring alliances and promoting critical values, the two countries now face an environment where they can further strengthen and develop cooperation based on their alliance, which shares key values.
In this session, taking note of such opportunities, we will examine specific ways to adapt the ROK-U.S. Alliance to the changed diplomatic and security landscape. By strengthening and expanding its cooperation with the U.S. in a flexible and creative manner, based on its successful experience of handling Covid-19, competitive edge in cutting-edge technology, and firm determination to address climate change, Korea will be able to meet various challenges surrounding the Peninsula and secure room to maneuver.
