Biography
Lars Johan Lönnback works for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Asia Pacific region since 2016 and currently works at the IOM Regional Office in Bangkok on Migration and Development Issues and was previously was engaged with the Regional Support Office for the Bali process. Prior to that, Lönnback headed the Division for Multilateral Processes at IOM headquarters in Geneva, which he joined the IOM in 2010. Between 1996 and 2010, Lönnback worked in the Swedish Foreign Service, most recently at the Swedish Permanent Representation in Brussels as Counsellor, and before that as Detached National Expert for Sweden at the European Commission. He served as political officer in the Office of the High Representative for the Dayton Peace Accords, based in Sarajevo (1997-2000) and at the Foreign ministry in Stockholm. He has had short working experiences with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Russian Federation (1994) and in Iraq (1991). Mr. Lönnback received his LLM in international law from the University of Stockholm. Lönnback is based in Bangkok, Thailand, where he lives with his spouse and two daughters.
