PRESIDENT KOH CHOONG-SUK is a native of Jeju Island and was born in Wu-do Island in 1950. He graduated from Yeonsei University in 1974 with a degree in Public Administration. He continued on with his studies there and obtained his Ph.D. in Public Administration in 1986. He started his teaching career at Jeju National University in 1979 and was elected as the 7th president of Jeju National University in May of 2005. He consequently went on to become elected as the 1st president of Jeju National University in September 2014 being widely acknowledged in his administrative and leadership skills. Other than his appointment in these two august positions, he has also made his mark in serving as the president of Jeju Development Institute from September of 2001 to April of 2004. He has written several books including the “Ie-eo-do Marine Conflict and Chinese Ethnicism” (2013), “Which future should Jeju choose: A Discussion for the Development of Jeju” (2013) as well as the “Yugoslavian Laborer’s Autonomic Management System and Organizational Power” (1991). Other than these publications, he has written about 140 articles, essays and academic theses.

고충석 박사는 1950년 6월 22일 제주시 우도면에서 출생했다. 현재는 제주시 노형동에서 거주하고 있으며, 처 강문정과의 슬하에 2남(고채환, 고권환)을 두고 있다. 1974년 연세대학교 행정학과를 졸업했고, 1977년에는 연세대학교 대학원 행정학과에서 행정학석사를, 그리고 1986년에는 동대학원에서 행정학박사 학위를 취득했다. 1979년 11월 제주대학교 행정학과 전임강사로 시작하여 조교수, 부교수, 교수를 거쳤고 보직으로 행정학과장, 법정대학장, 행정대학원장 등을 역임했다. 2005년 5월 직선에 의해 제주대학교 제7대 총장으로 역임했고, 2014년 9월 제주국제대학교 제1대 총장으로 취임하여 행정과 경영을 총괄하고 있다. 행정이론과 조직론을 전공한 행정학자로서 단독저서로는 “유고슬라비아 노동자 자치관리제도와 조직권력: 인간적 사회주의를 위한 하나의 시도” (법문사, 1991)와 “제주, 어떤 미래를 선택할 것인가: 제주 발전을 위한 담론”(제주대학교출판부, 2013)이 있고 “이어도 해양분쟁과 중국 민족주의”(한국학술정보, 2013, 공저)등 다수의 공저가 있다. 이 외에 학술논문, 저널 등을 포함하여 총 140여 편의 논고를 기고했다.
