Biography
Chung Jae-jeong, an honorary professor at Seoul National University, studies Korean modern history and the history of Korea-Japan relations. He, as Korea’s leading Japan expert, is highly active in writing and media activities, while aggressively participating in historical dialogues and exchanges for friendship between the two countries by establishing a network based on mutual interchange among Korean and Japanese historians. Having served as chairman of the Korea-Japan Historical Society and a member of the 1st and 2nd South Korea-Japan Joint History Research Projects, Chung is trying to promote the two countries’ mutual understanding of history and culture. He also contributed to the establishment of future-oriented Korea-Japan relations during his tenure as the 2nd president of the Northeast Asian History Foundation from 2009 to 2012. He is the author of The Japanese Invasion and the Korean Railroads (1999) and Historical Conflicts and Dialogues Between Korea and Japan (2014).
