Biography

TAJIMA Kaname is a Member of the House of Representatives in Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo and later earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied finance and international economics. Before entering politics, he worked for NTT and the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation, gaining extensive experience in international business and project finance.
He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 as a Democratic Party of Japan candidate. In 2010, he served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, where he worked on growth strategy, resource diplomacy and climate-related policy, including Japan’s participation in COP16. After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, he was appointed Head of the local nuclear disaster response headquarters in Fukushima, an experience that became a major turning point in his political career.
TAJIMA has focused particularly on energy policy, economic and industrial policy, social care for children, disaster recovery and recidivism prevention. He joined the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan in 2020 and served in roles including Chair of the party’s environment and energy policy bodies and “Next Minister” for economy, trade and industry. Now, he is serving his 9th term as a Member of the House of Representatives.
