Biography
Dr. CHOI Jang Ho is the Head of Korean Peninsula International Cooperation Team at Korea Institute for International Economic Policy. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Oregon State University, USA (2014), and his M.A. (2007) and B.A. (2005) in Economics from Seoul National University.
Since joining KIEP in 2014, Dr. CHOI has conducted extensive research on the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI)—a regional development framework encompassing border areas of North Korea, China, and Russia—and on North Korea’s international economic relations.
His major research includes Legal transition of the GTI into an international organization (2025); Research on North Korea's New Domestic and Foreign Economic Strategy after the Polycrisis (2025); and, The Rise of Economic Security Issues and Directions for International Cooperation (2022).
He currently serves as a policy advisor to the Ministry of Unification. He received a Commendation from the Minister of Economy and Finance of Korea in 2020 and another from the Minister of Unification in 2021 and in 2025.
