Biography

Dr. JANG Young Ook is Head of the North America and Europe Team at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). He has conducted extensive research on international migration since completing his doctoral studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2018. His research interests include mobility during the COVID-19 pandemic, environmental migration, labor migration, and refugee acceptance.

Dr. JANG has authored a number of policy reports, including Implications of Immigration Policies for Labor Market Tightness, which explores policy approaches for attracting foreign industrial workers while balancing the interests of domestic and foreign workers, firms, and local communities in both host and home countries. In addition to his policy research, Dr. JANG has published articles in leading academic journals such as Migration Studies, Applied Economics Letters, and Scientific Reports. He has also provided policy advisory services to various government bodies, including the National Advisory Committee on Infectious Disease Crisis Response, the Ministry of Justice’s Regional Visa Task Force, and the Chungnam Population Policy Advisory Group.
