Biography

KIM In-tae (金仁泰) is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS). He is a North Korea–born researcher who graduated from Kim Il Sung University of Politics (formerly known as Kŭmsŏng Political University), an elite cadre-training institution of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and worked at political organizations including the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League while in North Korea. He defected from North Korea around 2009 and subsequently settled in the Republic of Korea.
He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from Kyungnam University in 2021. Since joining INSS in 2011, he has accumulated extensive research and policy experience, serving as a policy advisory committee member to the Ministry of National Defense and as a standing member of the Unification and Security Subcommittee of the National Unification Advisory Council.
He is currently active as a visiting professor at the National Institute for Unification Education and as a policy advisor to the Ministry of Unification. His primary research interests include North Korean politics, society, and inter-Korean relations. He has authored and co-authored more than ten academic articles and books.
