Biography
Mr. SHIN Sung-won is Director-General of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) in the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. He received his B.A. from Sung Kyun Kwan University in Seoul, completed the Russian Studies at DLI in Monterey, and finished a High-level Policy Course of Central Government’s Training Institute in Kwa-Chun. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 as a career foreign service officer, and served as a second secretary in Russia (1991-1994), first secretary in Bulgaria (1994-1995), deputy director of Russian Affairs Bureau (1995-1998), deputy director of American Affairs Bureau (1998-1999), first secretary in Austria (1999-2002), assistant secretary of National Security Advisor’s Office of Office of the President (2002-2004),director of North America Division (2005-2007), deputy consul-general in USA (2007-2008), minister-counselor and consul-general in Russia (2008-2011).Fluent in English, Russian, and German. He is the author of articles, and a book, A Rising China and an American Strategy.
