Biography
Professor YU Hyun-Seok is currently at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, Korea. He specializes in regional cooperation and regional architectures in Indo-Pacific, Korea’s foreign policy, and public diplomacy. He served in many advisory positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Unification, and the Prime Minister’s office of the Republic of Korea. He was a visiting scholar at the ISIS of Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and a visiting professor at the College of Law and Politics of Keio University, Tokyo, Japan. From 2013 to 2016, he played an instrumental role in upgrading Korea’s public diplomacy as the president of the Korea Foundation, an affiliated organ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea. Dr. YU also served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malaysia from May 2016 to February 2018. He majored in Political science (B.A.) at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, and received his master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA. In 1995 he earned Ph.D. degree in Political Science from Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois), USA.
