Antoine AZZAM

Biography

H.E. Antoine AZZAM currently serves as the Ambassador of Lebanon to the Republic of Korea, a role he has held since 2018. He brings over three decades of diplomatic and academic experience, with deep expertise in Middle Eastern affairs. From 2014 to 2017, he was Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States and served as Chargé d’Affaires in Cairo. He previously headed the Department of Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and participated in multiple Arab Summits, representing Lebanon at both ministerial and presidential levels. As Consul General in New York (2004–2012), he joined the Lebanese delegation to the UN in his capacity as an Advisor. His earlier postings included Rome in his capacity of alternate permanent representative to FAO and the international organizations, and he played a key role in organizing the 9th Francophonie Summit in Lebanon. He also taught at Saint-Joseph University in Beirut. He holds a Doctorate in Geopolitics and Geostrategy, supervised by Professor Yves Lacoste, as well as an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School. His publications and lectures explore regional geopolitics, conflict, and migration. In 2009, he was decorated as a Knight of the Order of St Gregory the Great by the Holy See.
