Biography

After serving as the Deputy Prime Minister for Unification dealing with relations between the two Koreas, Lee Hong-Koo was appointed and served as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea from 1994 to 1995. He was also a member of the Korean National Assembly and the Chairman of the then ruling New Korea Party.

Dr. Lee was educated at Seoul National University, Emory University and Yale University, where he received a Ph.D. in political science. He was on the faculty of Seoul National University for 20 years(1968-1988), and currently a professor emeritus. He was also the president of the Korean Political Science Association.

Dr. Lee was the Korean Ambassador to the United Kingdom(1991-1993) and the United States(1998-2000). He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Seoul Forum for International Affairs, and an Advisor to the JoongAng Ilbo daily newspaper. He is an active member of the Trilateral Commission and the Club de Madrid.
