Biography

KANG Moon Sil is an expert actively engaged in the fields of social economy and family-friendly policy in Jeju. She has contributed to regional development through her tenure as a professor at Jeju International University. She has played a key role in invigorating Jeju’s social economy by providing policy consultation and engaging in field activities for the development of social enterprises, cooperatives, and village enterprises. She is currently serving at the Jeju Center for Family-Friendly Support.

At the center, KANG leads initiatives such as:
• discovering and supporting family-friendly certified enterprises,
• fostering family-oriented workplace cultures,
• identifying and nurturing care communities rooted in the local spirit of “Sunureum” (mutual aid), and
• developing and operating various programs aimed at building a more family-friendly cultural environment.

Her efforts are dedicated to expanding the reach and impact of family-friendly policies within the region. In addition to her professional roles, Kang also volunteers as the Secretary General of the Jeju April 3rd Bereaved Women’s Association. Since 2023, she has been organizing the forum “100 Women Survivors Speak”, which highlights the lived experiences, pain, and community roles of women who survived the Jeju 4·3 Incident. This forum serves as a meaningful platform to convey the memory of Jeju 4·3 from a women’s perspective. Combining both academic insight and hands-on experience, KANG Moon Sil continues to lead efforts toward building sustainable communities and fostering a family-friendly society in the Jeju region.
