Biography

Vice Admiral WON entered the Naval Academy in January 1974 and was commissioned in 1978. Sea duty assignment over 10 years including a Commanding Officer of a Destroyer provided him with a wide range of experiences at sea. Shore duty includes The Commandant of the Midshipman ; The Commander, Third Fleet Command ; Superintendent of the Naval Academy. He also served at many different levels at the ROK Joint Chief of Staffs, most notably as The Chief Director, Strategic Planning (J-5) ; and The Vice Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff. Vice Admiral WON retired after 40 years of active duty in 2014. For his excellent service in the military, VADM WON was awarded R.O.Korea's Order of National Security Merit, Cheonsu Medal and Order of National Security Merit, Gukseon Medal. VADM WON holds a Ph.D. in International Politics from Kyunggi University. He also studied National Security Policy at The George Washington University. Vice Admiral WON taught at the Sejong University and Kyungnam University. He also worked as an advisor for Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA). He currently works as a president at the Korean Institute for Maritime Strategy.
