Biography

I’m Guan-Bo from Taiwan. Since my student days, I’ve been fascinated by nature, and actively participated in environmental volunteer work. From my sophomore year, I’ve worked with a conservation group in Yilan’s Shuanglianpi to remove invasive species and restore native habitats. Shuanglianpi is a nationally protected wetland in Taiwan, home to rare aquatic plants. Yet, human disturbance and invasive species threaten its ecosystem. After seven years of effort, we successfully eradicated the troublesome invasive species Salvinia molesta, one of the most aggressive invaders. It is a rare achievement in global invasive species management. Now, we are working to restore the wetland to its natural state. Now, I work at Observer Ecological Consultant Co., Ltd. as a project specialist in the conservation planning department, focusing on ecological surveys and invasive species removal in Hualien. We are executing Taiwan Ecological Network project, supported by the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, aiming to create vital corridors from mountains to oceans and build a cross-disciplinary conservation platform for sustainability. Hualien is a key biodiversity hotspot, and we aim to bridge the public and private sectors through scientific surveys, practical conservation efforts, and stakeholder engagement to foster a more resilient and diverse environment in Taiwan.
