Biography
Dr. SONG Wonseob is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography Education at Jeju National University, Republic of Korea. His scholarly expertise centers on cultural and historical geography, with a particular research focus on sustainability, heritage systems, and landscape preservation. He earned his Ph.D. in Cultural and Historical Geography from Queen’s University Belfast (UK), an M.Sc. in Space and Society from the University of Bristol (UK), and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Hanyang University (South Korea). Dr. SONG has held academic appointments at both Jeju National University and Jeonbuk National University. He previously served as Head of World Heritage Research at the Jeju Research Institute and as an Associate Researcher at the Architecture and Urban Research Institute (AURI), under the Office of the Prime Minister of Korea. His recent research reflects a sustained commitment to sustainable development and cultural heritage. He has contributed to international initiatives with the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with particularly emphasis on the Jeju Haenyeo fisheries system, the impacts of climate change on tourism, and the safeguarding of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) in Korea.
