Biography
Dr. Karolina DZIUBATA-SMYKOWSKA is an anthropologist and ethnographer at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland. She is an active member of the Polish Ethnological Society, UNESCO's expert organization for intangible cultural heritage safeguarding, and the World Council of Anthropological Associations. Dr. DZIUBATA-SMYKOWSKA is also involved with the European Association of Social Anthropologists and the International Organization of Folk Art, which collaborates with UNESCO. She leads the project “Analysis of the relationship between anthropogenic climate change and local practices towards intangible cultural heritage,” funded by the Polish National Science Center, and is currently engaged in EU-funded “ERICA: Environmental monitoring through civic engagement” (2023-2026). She is also part of the Polish National Program for the Development of the Humanities’ “Lexicon of Polish Folklore” project. Dr. DZIUBATA-SMYKOWSKA’s research focuses on ethnoclimatology, climate ethnography, and the anthropology of weather and intangible cultural heritage. She studies the effects of climate change on local cultural practices, rituals, and environmental monitoring. In 2024, she received the Scientific Scholarship of the City of Poznań for her contributions to ethnology and cultural anthropology.
