Biography

Professor JUNG Juchul is a full professor in the Department of Urban Engineering at Pusan National University. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Urban Engineering from PNU, followed by an M.S. in Urban Planning at Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin. Appointed as an assistant professor at PNU in 2010, he was promoted to associate professor in 2014 and full professor in 2019, and inaugurated as Dean of the College of Engineering in 2024. His research spans land use planning, growth management, smart growth theory, environmental planning and policy, sustainable development, environmental impact assessment, urban politics, environmental conflict management, carbon-neutral city planning, and smart cities. For six years, he authored the “About City” column in the Busan Ilbo newspaper, diagnosing urban challenges and proposing solutions. He has served on advisory committees for the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development and currently serves as a regional member of the Presidential Committee on Carbon Neutrality, actively advancing community-led carbon neutrality initiatives.
