Biography
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture. Second-generation A-bomb survivor. Elected to the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly in 2013. Prior to this, worked as a broadcasting writer for television and radio stations. Elected to the House of Councillors in 2019. Working on policies for women and children, and has achieved legislation and legal reform to provide relief for victims of sexual violence.
Member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee and the head of the opposition party. Also a member of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary League. Supports multilateralism as a policy, promoting parliamentary diplomacy not only to strengthen Japan-South Korea relations, but also to deepen relations with countries like the Philippines.
