Biography
Born in Hiroshima prefecture, SHIOMURA Ayaka is a second-generation A-bomb survivor. She was elected to the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly in 2013. Before this, she worked as a broadcasting writer for television and radio stations. She was elected to the House of Councillors in 2019. While working on policies for women and children, she has achieved legislation and legal reform to provide relief for victims of sexual violence. She is a member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee and the head of the opposition party, and also a member of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary League. She supports multilateralism as a policy, promoting parliamentary diplomacy not only to strengthen Japan-South Korea relations but also to deepen relations with countries like the Philippines.
