Biography

Wan-Ick CHANG was born on January 6, 1963 in Daegu, Korea. He passed the 29th Judicial Examination in 1987 and has been working as a lawyer since 1993. Wan-Ick CHANG served as secretary-general of the Investigative Commission on Pro-Japanese Collaborators' Property for four years from 2006 and served as chairman of the Special Investigation Committee for the humidifier disinfectant and Disaster and the April 16 Sewol Ferry Disaster from March 2018 to January 2021. Wan-Ick CHANG filed lawsuits for compensation for forced labor against Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nippon Steel, and Fujikoshi in Korean courts, and conducted retrial lawsuits for the Jeju 4.3 Incident. He received the 7th Im Jong-guk Award in the social sector in 2013, and the 2nd Lawyer Public Interest Award from the Korean Bar Association in 2014.
