Biography
I am educated at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). DTU is the leading technical University in Denmark. After obtaining a master degree in engineering (materials science) I engaged in research. I obtained a Ph.D. degree in 1992 from DTU in the area of solid state physics. After completing my Ph.D. I was employed at Risø National Laboratory carrying out R&D work in the area of electrochemistry in particular engaging in development of Solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells. I have held several different positions at Risø National Lab./Technical University of Denmark. (the two organizations merged in 2006). I am currently a full professor in high temperature electrochemistry at DTU. Here, I lead a research section in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage. The section is called “Solid State Electrochemistry” and hosts ca. 35 employees, of which four are full professors. We deal with the development of components and devices for electrochemical energy conversion. I have ca. 30 years of experience in the field and have published more than 200 papers and 16 patents in the area. I am strongly engaged in industrial collaborations seeking to realize solid oxide electrolysis units, which can become key to the green transition of our society via their capacity to provide hydrogen in a sustainable manner.
