LEE WON DEOG is currently a professor of Japanese Studies at Kookmin University and dean of the College of Social Sciences. He is a member of the evaluation committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He graduated from the Department of Diplomacy(1985) and got a Ph.D. in international relations at University of Tokyo(1994). He served as the director of Institute of Japanese Studies of Kookmin Universtiy and the president of Association of contemporary Japanese Studies (2015) as well as researcher of the University of Pittsburgh and visiting professor of the University of Tokyo (2014). He also served as an advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Unification, and the Northeast Asian History Foundation. Recent papers include "The nature of the 65-year system of Korea-Japan relations and the tasks of the new era" and Korea-Japan Normalization Talks:1951-1965 as well as the Koera-Japan claim agreement and basic relations treaty(1965).
