Biography

Byeong Gon PARK is the 32nd President of the Korean Astronomical Society (KAS) and a Principal Researcher of Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, currently working as the Director of the Center for Large Telescopes. Byeong Gon PARK received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. Degrees in astronomy from Seoul National University in 1987 and 1991, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in astronomy from Kyungpook National University in 2001. Since 2009 he is working as the Principal Investigator of the Korean Giant Magellan Telescope project, a project to construct one of the largest ground-based optical/IR telescopes in the world. He has been serving as a Board member of the KAS more than 12 years, and worked as the vice Chair of the National Organizing Committee for the 31st General Assembly of the International Astronomical held in Busan in 2022.
