Biography

LEE Hyuk, former Korean Ambassador to Vietnam.
Ambassador LEE joined the Foreign Ministry of Korea in 1980.
Throughout the 38 years of diplomatic career, he has mostly served in Asia-related positions both overseas and at home.
His main responsibilities at the headquarters were to cover Korea-Japan relations as director, advance Korea’s ties with Asian and Oceanian nations as director-general of the Asia-Pacific bureau.
He also served as deputy minister for planning and coordination at MOFA and secretary to the President for foreign affairs at the Blue House.
His overseas postings include counselor at the Korean embassy in Beijing, deputy chief of mission in Tokyo, ambassador to the Philippines and Vietnam respectively.
He served as the 4th secretary-general of the ASEAN-KOREA Centre from 2018-2021.
He majored in economics at Korea University and studied Japanese language and politics at Keio University, stayed at the Institute of Diplomacy at Georgetown University as a visiting fellow.
