Biography

After studying commerce at Keio University, he started his career at Mitsubishi Corporation, gaining insight into the intricate workings of the world.

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2000. During his time as a member of the House of Representatives, he focused on proposing and implementing policies using the knowledge and experience he gained at the company.

After serving for more than two decades in national politics, he decided to step up to the challenge of achieving the regional revitalization of his home region Tokushima at a level closer to the frontlines and became Governor of Tokushima Prefecture in May 2023. Since then, he has been actively pursuing policies based on increasing security and attractiveness of the region, while promoting more transparency within the management of the prefectural government.

In line with the current situation and contemporary issues, he identifies the vision for Tokushima’s future and strives to achieve it in a shared effort with the citizens as they work together to create a sustainable prefecture that can be handed forward to future generations, full of dreams and hopes.
